Odd Delay

What an odd miscommunication. Apparently there is no one in PCMC clinic today, so we are keeping Bridgette home until Monday. By the time she had truly gone to bed last night (woke up several times due to her sore bum) she had managed to drink 14 oz., in doses of 1 to 2 ounces at a time. This morning she started with 3 oz. in one sitting, an improvement already. The surgery resident at the hospital said to stay the course, and unless we feel she needs a readmit for nutrition, to wait until Monday to bring her in. Assuming she continues to improve, we will pull the line then.

Good thing the home nursing group left us extra supplies to flush her PICC! Ends up we'll be caring for it longer than planned.

Oh! I was hoping that PICC line would be gone today! But, hooray, hooray, that she gets to stay at home, at least until Monday. By then, certainly she will be eating and drinking enough that she can stay there.

Wishing you well with everything until then.

Too bad to hear about her sore bum. We had good luck with the acidopholis. And they gave us some really good diaper cream at the hospital, but I can't remember the name right now - but let me know if you're interested and I'm happy to dig it up for you.

I hope the rest of your weekend (at home!) is blissfully uneventful.

Hey, Kelly and Jeff - just a thought - you guys used a cotton ball to slow down the mess during ostomy bag changes - could that apply to diaper changes too?

Always thinkin', Ma.

Yeah, we're already doing that actually. Comes with the medical-invention-experimentation mindset we've adapted over the last year. It doesn't work all that great, but it helps stanch minor trickles.

Poor little baby bum. Diaper rash is NO FUN! I'm so glad you got to bring her home. I talked to your mom today and she updated me (since I've been SO BUSY here I haven't had a chance to stay updated). Here's to one more day at home, Nurse Kelly!

I'm so glad she is improving and eating more. I've been thinking about her a lot. Have you been giving her oatmeal baths to help with the rash? Aveeno has a product that's very helpful! If you're able to give her baths, I'd definitely try it!

Lots of love!

Mix a little baking soda in warm water in a squirt bottle (like a peri bottle) and squirt it on her bum. The baking soda helps neutralize the acid.I don't know if you could set her in a shallow bowl of the warm mixture, but that is even better. I sat all eight of my babies baking soda baths when ever they had diarrhea.

Oh, poor girl. I'm glad she's home and drinking. Hopefully her bum will heal quickly. I'm glad you are doing so many updates- it's good to know what's going on and how Brigette is progressing.
