2011 by Facebook

Baby was *just* recovering after that whole 2 month ordeal. We got one good week, but tonight she's been up all night sick again. Wish this kid could catch a break... I mean a break of significant length.

Just noticed tonight that my "Welcome Pup" (a little dog statue on my front step) is still holding a sign that reads: Merry Christmas! I'd change it... but people might as well know I'm a little behind before they step through the door.

Ever gotten a haircut, and when the stylist turns you toward the mirror and asks, "What do you think?" your first actual thought is... "Well, it'll grow back..." Today I was the stylist and gave my Sheltie a fur-cut. By skipping the puppy-parlor I saved $100!!! And don't worry... it'll grow back.

*March 31 at 1:20pm

Nothing unusual about today. Just been happy. :)

Met Jimmer Fredette at Costco! Was in the check-out line next to him... got our receipts checked at the door simultaneously... and judging by the gash in my Achilles tendon from the cart behind me... I think the woman behind me saw him too! and nothing else. :)

I don't know what your daughter does with HER fairy figurines, but at OUR house they fight over soda crackers, with a "Mine! No, mine!" and then end up brawling. Ever seen a two inch fairy throw a punch? Fearsome stuff...

*March 25 at 11:04am

Ah well... thanks for the ride BYU! Jimmermania forever!

*March 24 at 7:42pm

BYU vs FLA overtime: 68-68! You're KILLIN' me! Come on Jimmer... sink me some mega-threes.

I'd like to do a personalized plaque for one of my walls. Anyone know where I can get vinyl lettering at a reasonable (or free) cost?

*March 24 at 6:29pm

Just typed and erased 4 different whiny status updates. Have landed on this: "I need a hug..."

Welcome back, Jon! Happy to have my brother home after his year in South Korea.

*March 15 at 10:27pm

Saw the biggest rainbow in the evening sky yesterday and had to pull over to watch it a while. No song, no photo, no artist, no author can do a real rainbow justice. And no matter what your religious convictions, it sure did seem like a message of hope to me...

Real time footage. 6 minutes 21 seconds of change.

Tsunami Footage [HD]

I want to show everyone the news media we are being presented with here in Japan. I think it's quite different from what you see on CNN and other Western news outlets. Due to the popularity of this video, I have started a new page to collect my personal ...experiences as well as release Japanese news reports about the Tsunami.

"Not If But When" -- No more denial! There's a link at the top of this page for a 50 minute radio presentation on earthquakes in Utah. It's an *excellent* listen. For anyone living in Utah, I encourage you to listen. (You can listen while doing something else!) Consider recent events in Japan, and *please* do what you can to prepare! There's also some written info on this page.

Here's some good news! Bridgette dropped to 0% (percentile) in weight in the hospital. But in *one week* since she's been home, she's gained enough to be in the 50%!!! Want her secret? All you have to do is be 36 inches tall and eat 5 lbs of peanut butter in 7 days. :) No joke. 3 big jars. And still eating...

*March 10 at 1:34pm

Today at home on the couch, Bridgette cuddled in my arms while my puppy fell asleep in my lap. These are the moments of emotional detox.

*March 7 at 3:21pm

I *lub* this! Here is my daughter in her hospital bed, and one of the cutest videos ever... partly because she's had such difficulties learning to speak. It does our hearts good to hear her try. :)

Beyond belief! We are going home tonight. We'll still be watching for complications at home, and we'll have follow-up appointments, but since she's off the IV and not having other procedures done here, we can do what we need to do at home. Home. Home. Home. That word sounds SO good.

Today at the hospital Bridgette played with plastic dinosaurs. She made a little family. The smallest, cutest dinosaur she called "Baby!" She picked the funniest-looking dinosaur from the bucket and said, "Daddy!" And just who did she assign as Mommy? The Tyranasaurus Rex, of course!

I just got on here for the first time since this morning and am feeling overwhelmed and teary by all the support. Thanks for all your comments, emails, page posts, thoughts, and prayers. When people want to know what they can do to help? Well, you're doing it.

*February 27 at 9:56pm

So Bridgette seems worse this morning. Belly is bigger, temp is back, yet diapers are fuller... it's just pouring out. How is that *possible?* A bit surreal. The surgeons and GI's are consulting en masse. My daughter is one-of-a-kind in all the best ways, but sometimes I wish her insides were a little less unique.

*February 27 at 9:04am

No real changes. We're just waiting "it" out now, whatever "it" is. B's sitting in her hospital bed playing with some MegaBloks that someone donated. She loves them and is building, "a house!" It looks like a volcano that's spouting flowers. :)

*February 26 at 9:43am

Babe is out of surgery and mad as hell. She screams at everyone who comes near her. I think that's a good sign. Vitals are strong anyway.

*February 25 at 5:31pm

Some other emergency surgeries pushed her time back, but we're headed down to surgery ourselves now. And the poor thing was finally napping. Well, guess she's in for a long nap this afternoon...

*February 25 at 3:25pm

Well, I guess my husband agreed to a procedure for Bridgette that requires full-anesthesia... I just found out and am still 45 mins away from the hospital. Procedure happens in 1 hour. Am leaving now, but please spare a thought for her today. Still not doing well.

*February 25 at 11:07am

Just woke up refreshed from a long, quiet, blissful night's rest at the hospital... heheh... chuckle, chuckle... snark... haha... BWAHAHAA... HAAAAAAAAAAAA!

*February 24 at 8:05am

Admitted to the hospital (Primary Children's). Not the best of days, but at least we have a view! It's of the parking garage... but trust me, we've had worse. :)

*February 23 at 3:21pm

B is severely dehydrated this morning. X-ray yesterday showed considerable swelling in parts of her intestine and no one knows the cause yet. Doctors are fighting each other and me. So we're off to the hospital today. All wishes for her health and *my* sanity accepted.

New Building Concepts

Looking forward, The Living Planet holds a vision for the future that includes a larger aquarium for the people of Utah. However, we are committed to growing in a fiscally responsible manner which means a large aquarium is still a few years away. The final... site and funding mechanisms still need to be determined; a process we are in now. To make our vision of a large aquarium a reality, funding will need to be supplied by a supportive community: the public, private foundations, individuals, and interested organizations and companies. Our current aquarium is self-sustaining, and we are dedicated to ensuring that a larger version of The Living Planet Aquarium will also support itself through gate receipts, gift shop sales, café sales, and facility rentals.

Good news! Bridgette officially no longer needs visits from a physical therapist! One year ago we had 4 therapists plus 3 weekly therapy classes. Now we're down to 2 therapists and 1 class -- a music class that she loves. Way to go, B!

HD mums: For those whose children are on full-time meds... any tips when your little one refuses to take them? Bri is on Flagyl twice daily and has always taken it zero problems. But this week she thrashes/screams and spits it out. Could use suggestions.

"Ring around the rosies, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down!" Only Bridgette just says, "Ashes, ashes, ashes, ashes, ashes..." over an over, and it doesn't come out sounding like "ashes..." :) :) :)

Taken in our backyard last November. A little late in posting, so instead of Merry Christmas... Happy Valentine's Day!
